Soft, fluffy bite-sized breakfast dumplings made with semolina, curd, and vegetables—light, wholesome, and perfect for mornings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina (rava/sooji)

  • ½ cup curd

  • ½ cup water (adjust as needed)

  • ¼ cup carrot (finely chopped)

  • 2 tbsp onion (finely chopped)

  • 1 tbsp capsicum (finely chopped)

  • 1 green chilli (finely chopped, optional)

  • ½ tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp oil

  • Curry leaves (chopped)

  • Salt to taste

  • ¼ tsp baking soda or fruit salt (eno)

  • Oil for greasing

Directions

  • Prepare Batter: In a bowl, mix rava, curd, water, and salt to make a thick batter. Rest for 5–7 minutes.
  • Add Vegetables: Mix in carrot, onion, capsicum, green chilli, and curry leaves.
  • Prepare Tempering: Heat 1 tsp oil, add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add to the batter.
  • Activate Batter: Add baking soda or eno just before cooking and mix gently.
  • Cook Appe: Heat appe pan and grease each cavity lightly. Pour batter into cavities, cover, and cook on low flame.
  • Flip & Cook: Turn appe and cook until golden on all sides.
  • Serve Hot: Serve with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup.
