A quick and comforting South Indian breakfast made from roasted rava/suji (semolina), tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and veggies. Perfect for busy mornings!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina (rava/suji)

  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee

  • 1 tsp mustard seeds

  • 1 tsp urad dal

  • 1 small onion (chopped)

  • 1 green chilli (slit)

  • 1 carrot (chopped)

  • A few curry leaves

  • 2½ cups water

  • Salt to taste

  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Directions

  • Dry roast rava/suji (semolina) until aromatic; set aside.
  • Heat oil, add mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves, onions & chillies — sauté.
  • Add chopped veggies and cook briefly.
  • Pour in water, bring to a boil, and add salt.
  • Gradually add roasted rava/suji (semolina) while stirring continuously.
  • Cook until soft and fluffy. Garnish with coriander leaves.

Notes

  • Serve hot with coconut chutney or pickle!
