Spicy and tangy Chole Masala made with chickpeas, onions, tomatoes, and a special blend of Punjabi spices. Perfect with rice or roti.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried chickpeas (or 2 cups canned)

  • 2 onions (finely chopped)

  • 2 tomatoes (pureed)

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 2 green chillies (slit)

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds

  • 2 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • 1 tsp chole masala

  • 1/2 tsp turmeric

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander for garnish

Directions

  • Soak chickpeas overnight. Pressure cook until soft.
  • Heat oil. Sauté cumin and onions till golden.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and chillies.
  • Add tomato puree and spices. Cook till oil separates.
  • Add chickpeas and 1 cup water. Simmer 15 mins.
  • Garnish with coriander. Serve hot.
