A quick and savory Indian-style toast made by dipping bread slices in a spiced gram-flour batter—crispy outside, soft inside, and perfect for busy mornings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup gram flour (besan)

  • ½ cup water (adjust consistency)

  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)

  • 2 tbsp carrot (finely grated)

  • 1 green chilli (finely chopped, optional)

  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder

  • ½ tsp red chilli powder (optional)

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tsp oil (for batter)

  • 4–6 bread slices

  • Oil or butter for shallow frying

  • Fresh coriander leaves (chopped)

Directions

  • Prepare Batter: In a bowl, mix besan, turmeric, red chilli powder, salt, and water to make a smooth batter.
  • Add Vegetables: Add onion, carrot, green chilli, oil, and coriander. Mix well.
  • Heat Pan: Heat a non-stick pan or tawa and grease lightly with oil or butter.
  • Coat Bread: Dip each bread slice into the besan batter, coating both sides evenly.
  • Toast: Place coated bread on the pan and cook on medium flame until golden on one side.
  • Flip & Cook: Flip and cook the other side until crisp and fully cooked.
  • Serve Hot: Serve immediately with green chutney or tomato ketchup.

Notes

  • Tips:
Cut toast into sticks for kids
Add cheese on top for a cheesy version
Use whole wheat or multigrain bread for a healthier option
