A warm, comforting South Indian breakfast made with roasted semolina, mixed vegetables, and fragrant tempering—light, filling, and nutritious.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup semolina (rava/sooji)

  • 2½ cups water

  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee

  • ½ tsp mustard seeds

  • ½ tsp cumin seeds

  • 1 tsp chana dal

  • 1 tsp urad dal

  • 1 green chilli (finely chopped)

  • 1-inch ginger (finely chopped)

  • Curry leaves

  • ½ cup mixed vegetables (carrot, beans, peas)

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • Fresh coriander leaves

Directions

  • Roast the Rava: Dry roast rava on low flame until aromatic. Remove and keep aside.
  • Prepare Tempering: Heat oil/ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, chana dal, and urad dal. Fry until golden.
  • Add Aromatics: Add green chilli, ginger, and curry leaves. Sauté briefly.
  • Cook Vegetables: Add mixed vegetables and sauté for 2–3 minutes. Add water and salt; bring to a boil.
  • Add Rava: Lower flame and slowly add roasted rava while stirring continuously.
  • Cook: Cover and cook for 3–4 minutes until rava absorbs water.
  • Finish: Add lemon juice and mix gently. Garnish with coriander and serve hot.
