A tangy and spicy South Indian-style fish curry simmered in tamarind and aromatic spices — perfect with steamed rice.

Ingredients

  • 500g firm fish (cut into medium pieces)

  • 2 onions (finely chopped)

  • 2 tomatoes (pureed)

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 1 tsp turmeric powder

  • 2 tsp red chilli powder

  • 1 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp garam masala

  • 2 tbsp tamarind pulp

  • 4 tbsp oil

  • Salt to taste

  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish

Directions

  • Marinate fish with turmeric, salt, and chilli powder. Keep aside.
  • Heat oil, sauté onions until golden brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1 min.
  • Stir in tomato puree, coriander powder, and chilli powder. Cook until oil separates.
  • Add tamarind pulp and 1 cup water; bring to a boil.
  • Gently add fish pieces, simmer for 10–12 min.
  • Sprinkle garam masala, garnish with coriander leaves, and serve hot with steamed rice.
